The Season of Charity

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (Matthew 25:40 KJV)

As the holidays approach, more opportunities arise to help those in need. We need to get off of our cushy pews in our cushy church buildings, and get to work. The work of the church is to be Christ's body. He did many charitable works and miracles while He was on the earth, so why wouldn't His body continue the work He began? We like being AT church, but we aren't really comfortable BEING the church.

I challenge all of you to find a cause, a project, or specific people that need your help. The living sacrifice that Romans 12:1 discusses is about doing your absolute best for the body of Christ as an act of worship. We owe it to each other to offer our resources to those in need. Resources include money, material goods, and time. Jesus Christ feels what we're going through, so we have to remember when we don't help our brothers and sisters, we are not helping Christ.

I think we will find that once we begin to participate in more charitable opportunities, then we will be more fulfilled ourselves. The body suffers if the toes are cold, if proper nutrition isn't provided, or even if the mind is battling demons. Take some time to find some volunteer opportunities in your area, or make your own. Somebody always needs something. Let's get to work!
